The rise of the quantified self
The term “Quantified Self" was coined in 2007 by Wired editors Gary Wolf and Kevin Kelly, who organized a meetup of 30 people. Today, the group has grown to include more than 20,000 members in 188 cities.
The rise of the quantified self movement means we're all living by numbers. In the past, industries harped on understanding consumers and measuring their behavior -- today, consumers themselves are tracking and generating enormous amounts of data with Fitbits, Ups, Whistles and more.
